Last year, they honored Joe with induction into the 2025 Hall of Fame class. This year, he is being honored in the first class as a Mobile Music Legend. We thank the Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival for this honor. Come and share with us on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at The Temple Downtown, 351 St. Francis Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602. Joe Lewis is your man! He has been in the Gulf Coast Jazz scene over 70+ years and has earnd the title “Elder Statesman of Mobile Jazz” as one of the last musicians of an era of gifted Mobile Jazzmen including renowned trombonist Fred Westley, local legendary musicians including E.B. Coleman, Joe Morris Sr., John ‘Jabo’ Starks, Marshall Ezell, Hubert Stanfield, Theodore Arthur, and James Seals to name a few.
For those who do not know, Joe has also been performing Gospel Music for over 30 years, having released two gospel CDs and one with the choir he directed for over twenty-five years, St. James Major Catholic Church in Prichard, Alabama.
In 2026, Joe started the Joe Lewis Legacy Tribute, performing funeral services before and during services as well as grave side. Please call 251-219-0169 for more information.
In 2025, Youth on The Winning Side and Nu-Image/Nu-Flame honored Joe as a Mobile Gospel Great. Also in the same year, Gulf Coast Ethnic and Heritage Festival in Mobile inducted Joe into their Hall of Fame. In July 2026, Joe will be inducted in the first annual Hall of Fame for Mobile Music Legends.

Performing in the Gulf Coast for over 70 years, Joe Lewis has entertained countless audiences across the world. From his earlier days traveling in the Air Force Band, marching at Mardi Gras parades in the famed Mobile Excelsior Band for over 25 years, to performing with trombonist Fred Wesley, Lou Rawls, Betty Wright and many others, Joe's musicianship has been crafted like fine wine; only getting better with age.
